Our Duties As Christians?

What is/are our duties as Christians?  Number one (1), numero uno: we are to worship the living God!  We are called to glorify, praise and honor the name of God!  In Matthew 6:9 it is written, “hallowed be thy name.”  That means that God is to be reverenced, held in deep awe and respect.  Everything about God is holy.  That is why it is so important that we be holy too, as His people.  We represent our God in all things.  When the world looks at us, they should see Jesus.  This does not mean that we are perfect and sinless, cause we are not.  That will only happen for Christians when we are in heaven.  Also another of our duties is to edify the body of Christ (all believers).  In Ephesians 4 Paul wrote, “He (Jesus Christ) gave some, apostles; and some prophets; and some, evangelists; and some pastors and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints (all Christians), for the work of the ministry, for the edifying (building up) of the body of Christ…”  This means that we are all supposed to be growing in our faith.  We can only grow in our walk with Christ by studying His word, the Bible, and through prayer.  Next, we are to serve others.  In Mark chapter 10 Jesus tells two of His disciples, James and John, that “whoever will be great among you shall be your servant.”  In other words if we are to be obedient to God, we must serve others.  Service to others is a privilege and a way to honor our God.  Service is not something we do for a reward, or for any payment.  If we perform acts of service for something in return, we will not receive a heavenly reward.  The point is serve others because Jesus commands it, and because you love HIM, not for something in return!  Lastly we are called to spread the Gospel message; the good news that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and HE ALONE SAVES!  In Mark 16:15, Jesus’ word is recorded by John Mark, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”  No one can be saved unless they hear the Gospel and receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  So ask yourself the question:  am I doing what I am supposed to be doing?
